Hanna Pawlikowska
Hanna was born in Warsaw, Poland. Hanna moved to Gdansk, a city located at the Baltic Sea, where she eventually married Mieczyslaw Pawlikowski. Together they had three daughters: Grazyna, Iwona and Tatiana. Hanna loved music and she always enjoyed singing. She often sang the famous arias from different operas with her incredible high soprano voice. Unfortunately the war and the difficult life after the war didn’t allow Hanna to continue her musical education.
Her interest in weaving, tapestry (kilimy) and macrame started in Canada in her later years. She took courses in macrame (the craft of tying thread and string in decorative knots), and in weaving which became her long lasting hobby. She created about twenty tapestries during her stay in Edmonton. They were based on different paintings, among them a couple from the Canadian Group of Seven, as well as her own creations of nature scenes and some contemporary images. Every piece was given as a gift to her daughters and grandchildren and has been treasured by them since. Hanna lives happily in Edmonton with her family. She is 95 years old.
